Course Description
According to the PMBOK Guide, Project Quality Management applies to all projects, regardless of the nature of their deliverables.
This course equips learners with the skills necessary for implementing the organization's quality policy and the skills needed to plan, manage, and control both project and product quality, ensuring that stakeholder objectives are met.
The course content is applicable to project management across industries and sectors, enabling the application of Project Quality Management across different project application areas.
Course Objectives:
After completing this course, learners will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the following Project Quality Management processes:
- Plan Quality Management. The process of identifying quality requirements and/or standards for the project and its deliverables and documenting how the project will demonstrate compliance with quality requirements and/or standards. The key benefit of this process is that it provides guidance and direction on how quality will be managed and verified throughout the project.
- Manage Quality. The process of translating the quality management plan into executable quality activities that incorporate the organization's quality policies into the project. The key benefit of this process is that it facilitates the improvement of quality processes.
Control Quality. The process of monitoring and recording the results of executing the quality management activities to assess performance and ensure the project outputs are complete, correct, and meet customer expectations.
The key benefits of this process include:- Identifying the causes of poor process or product quality and recommending and/or taking action to eliminate them; and
- Validating that project deliverables and work meet the requirements specified by key stakeholders necessary for final acceptance.
- Continuous Process Improvement. An iterative means for improving the quality of all processes. Continuous Process Improvement reduces waste and eliminates activities that do not add value. This allows processes to operate at increased levels of efficiency and effectiveness.
Key Concepts
The key concepts for Project Quality Management include:
- Quality includes the ability to satisfy the customer's stated or implied needs.
- Deliverables are measured for the quality of both the conformance to acceptance criteria and fitness for use.
- Prevention is preferred over inspection. It is better to design quality into deliverables, rather than to find quality issues during inspection.
- The cost of preventing mistakes is generally much less than the cost of correcting mistakes when they are found by inspection or during usage.
- The cost of quality (COQ) includes all costs incurred over the life of the product by investment in preventing nonconformance to requirements, appraising the product or service for conformance to requirements, and failing to meet requirements (rework).
- Cost of quality is often the concern of program management, portfolio management, the PMO, or operations.
- The most effective quality management is achieved when quality is incorporated into the planning and designing of the project and product.
